The Artist

I believe that creativity is curiosity in motion.

Since getting my BFA, I’ve spent time exhibiting my drawings and photography, creating print and web design, making music, teaching photography summer camps, screen printing my illustrations, shooting concerts, and creating magazines. I now teach high school kids to express themselves creatively.

I feel the motivation for these efforts comes from the same place and I let them manifest as they will.

To be a jack of all trades is not an aspersion. Stay curious and try as many things as you can. Life is too short to do the same thing the whole time.

The Educator

I have always had one foot in the world of education. Much of my career has been centered around community-based instruction—I’ve taught photography and design to both youth and adults in a wide range of settings, including ArtWorks, Visionaries + Voices, The Carnegie, and Covington schools. These experiences helped me build flexible, inclusive lesson plans that meet students where they are and support creative growth.

I am now in a stage of life where I’d like my work to be more meaningful and have transitioned into teaching full time. Licensed to teach Visual Art K-12 in Ohio and Kentucky, I am currently teaching Drawing and Painting at Boone County High School in Florence, Kentucky.

The Importance of Art

I don’t teach art because I believe my students will all grow up to be famous fine artists.

I believe that art can benefit everyone no matter their path in life.

Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”   - Kurt Vonnegut
