I begin each class with a simple reminder: “Trying Counts Here.” It signals to students that they arrive with different skills and experiences, and that success in my classroom is measured by effort, growth, and willingness to engage—not perfect outcomes. My role is to help students find direction in their work by building confidence, encouraging curiosity, and guiding them to reflect, adjust, and persist through challenges.
Teaching to me is an act of stewardship. I aim to create a space where students feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and try again. Grounded in empathy and respect, my classroom acknowledges that students carry varied and often unseen challenges. Art becomes a means of expression and exploration, and students are supported through collaboration, thoughtful critique, and a shared sense of community where comparison is set aside.
I strive to model integrity, fairness, and accountability in all interactions, maintaining clear boundaries while being present and consistent. Professionally, I value collaboration, reflection, and adaptability—working with colleagues, evolving curriculum, and responding to student needs and contemporary practice.
I am committed to ongoing growth as both an educator and an artist. My philosophy is shaped by real-world experience and the realities of today’s students, many of whom feel pressure to be perfect and hesitate to take risks. In my classroom, they are given space to think differently, build confidence through persistence, and develop skills that extend beyond art. Trying counts here—and that is what they carry forward.
